The demands on leaders and managers within manufacturing today are enormous. The explosion of knowledge and technologies globally strains the capacities of even the largest companies.  Competitors around the world are taking advantage of new technologies and knowledge diffusion and are innovating more rapidly and effectively.  Competitive challenges get tougher and tougher.

In this new competitive environment, problem-solving models within industry are changing as companies seek to spur innovation that creates better products and processes, cheaper and faster.  More and more, we're realizing that we need to reach outside of our organizations to solve problems and maintain competitiveness.  We just do not have the money, time or talent inside our organizations to take advantage of an ever-expanding world of knowledge or to solve more and more challenging problems.

That's why we've created OMA Groups.  This networking site is designed to be a trusted place for Ohio manufacturing leaders and managers to share information and knowledge to solve problems and develop innovations, to protect our companies and to grow manufacturing in Ohio.

The OMA itself is a community of companies and people who love manufacturing and who care about Ohio, a "community of interest."  Within our large community are many smaller ones organized around management responsibities, professional practices and tools, "communities of practice."

With OMA Groups, we've begun to build a set of networking and knowledge management tools for you to use in each of your personal manufacturing communities.  You can use the tools to organize groups around your industry, your profession, your problems, your tools.  It is up to you and your now-and-future collaborators.

There is a tremendous depth and diversity of knowledge within Ohio manufacturing.  There is also a widely shared sense of purpose in protecting and growing manufacturing.   Through OMA Groups, you can connect the purpose with the people and create a competitive edge for each of us, our companies and our state.

It is a brand new undertaking for your association, the OMA.  We'll all learn as we go.  Right now, though, please jump in and connect.  And, let us know how we can improve the site and its functionality to best serve you and your groups.
